A Note from our Principal,
Mrs. Linda Brusky

Parent MemoMay 29, 2008

We’re all so busy getting ready to finish up for the year.  The children are finishing their school work and the teachers are preparing all their records.

AND we’re all getting things packed up for the construction that begins June 2nd.  How exciting!

We attend our last school mass on Friday at 8am.  Please be on time.  We have a 10am dismissal   Please be prepared to pick up your children on time.

Please read the “Construction News” sheets from the last two weeks with details for the summer months.

Thank you again to all the family members who helped for Olympic Day.  It turned out to be a gorgeous day.  The Greece team came in first place.  All the kids really put their best efforts into the games.  Thanks also to Bob and Jan Porod for donating all the food to feed our hungry Olympians, the teachers and parents.

Thanks to Mrs. Sweeney, Mission co-coordinator, the teachers, and the parents for helping the children to raise $663.31 for the Holy Childhood Association.

Under the guidance of Mr. Letendre, our 7th graders gave their “Project Citizen” presentation to a group of public officials in downtown Chicago on Wednesday, May 28th.  Well done, 7th graders and Mr. Letendre.

We congratulate our preschoolers and kindergarteners on a job well done.

A special thanks to the 8th grade parents and graduates for the lovely luncheon and gift to the school.  The money will be put toward purchasing more dies for our Ellison Machine.  The machine makes quick work of cutting out designs and pieces for bulletin boards and art activities.

We congratulate our 8th grade graduates and wish them well in their new high schools and beyond.

I’d like to send my gratitude to the individual family members who answered the call for volunteers, especially those who went WAY beyond the ten required hours.  We’re still waiting for some families to turn their blue sheets in.

We bid a fond farewell to Mrs. Sarah Kakareka, our Kindergarten teacher.  She has been traveling a long distance this year.  She’s looking for something closer to home.  We’re all going to miss her.  She did a wonderful job!

A thank you and farewell to Mrs. Dora Davis who filled in for Mrs. Battisto since March.  She will be moving with her husband to Wisconsin.

We have a case of Chicken Pox the following are some systems to look out for…The incubation period is approximately two weeks – so please observe your child every morning before sending him/her to school, for the following symptoms;

Symptoms of a cold (may precede rash by 2 or 3 days
Fever
Rash – look for raised red dots on forehead, chest, and back.  Some may already be at the blister stage.  Itching is very                common on the onset

The staff and I wish you all a wonderful summer.  Be safe.

See all our new and returning students on September 8th in full, regular uniforms.  We meet on the playground at 7:50 am with an 11:30 dismissal.  Packet of forms will be distributed that day.

We are still accepting new registrations for next year.  Send your family, friends and neighbors to join us here at the newly renovated Our Lady of Charity School.

I.Phase I of the Sound Abatement project begins May 31st

II.May 30th is the last day anyone will be allowed in the building.  This safety precaution is established by the general contractor and the insurance company.  Please pardon our dust and boxes as we ALL get ready to leave.

III.ALL families of Preschool, Kindergarten & 8th grade students should have fulfilled ALL financial obligations by May 15th.  Non-payment will result in students not being able to participate in graduation or end-of-the-year programs (Preschool & Kindergarten).  Diplomas, certificates, report cards and transfers of records will be on hold until payment is made.  Grade 1 – 7 families need to have all financial obligations met by May 15th.  Report cards, certificates, transfers of records will be held until all amounts are paid in full.

IV.Any problems and/or questions about accounts need to be taken care of immediately (copies of receipts, cancelled checks, etc. would make solutions to problems much easier).  Mistakes can happen.  Let’s get them taken care of now.

V.Tuition Management forms and $42.00 fees are due May 16th.  Delay in getting these forms in will result in doubling up on payments to catch up or dividing the amount over few months, resulting in larger payments.  Avoid this if at all possible.  Your only other option is to pay your tuition in full in July.
Registration forms and fees also need to be turned into the office before
the Tuition Management forms can be processed..

Any outstanding balances automatically puts everything on hold.

XII.Thank you for your patience and understanding.  The closing and opening of school will be a little “rough”, but well worth it.  Over three million dollars worth of renovations will be done over by the end of September.  How great it will be for the children!

We will all enjoy the new windows, new heating and air-conditioning systems, new cabinetry in the classroom, new lighting in the hallways, and freshly painted classrooms.

XIII.It is in the Advisory Board’s and school’s plan to have a grand reopening and rededication when the work is completed by the end of September.  We’d like to invite all our current and alumni families.  IF you know alumni families who would like to be on the alumni list we are creating tell them to contact us by calling the school at 708.652.0262 or olcharityschool@yahoo.com
